Responsible Employees

Under the CUSM policy titled, “Title IX Sexual Harassment & Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures” employees are obligated to report sexual harassment and sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator. This includes information about incidents a responsible employee knows or reasonably should have known about.

A responsible employee is defined as a University employee who has the authority to redress sexual harassment and sexual misconduct, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual misconduct (in regards to employees and/or students), or who an employee or student could reasonably believe has the authority or duty to remedy the inappropriate behavior.

The following employees are considered responsible employees at CUSM: all full-time, part-time, visiting, and volunteer faculty, staff, and administrators.

A responsible employee’s request regarding the confidentiality of reporting sexual harassment or sexual misconduct will be considered by the Title IX Coordinator in determining an appropriate response.

If you are unsure on what to do in a particular situation, it is recommended you err on the side of caution and contact the Title IX Coordinator for consult on the matter.

Campus Security Authorities

A Campus Security Authority (CSA) is an individual, who by virtue of their CUSM employee responsibilities and under the Clery Act, are designated to report information of alleged crimes that are reported to them in good faith by others, as well as information of alleged crimes they personally witness. Under the Clery Act, a crime is “reported” when it is brought to the attention of a campus security authority or law enforcement personnel by a victim, witness, other third party, or even the offender. CSA’s will provide such reports to the Clery Committee so that they may be included and published in the university’s Annual Security Report (ASR).
