Compliance Trainings
All of CUSM’s community — students, staff, faculty and other academic appointees — are required to receive comprehensive Title IX compliance training that is commonly described as sexual harassment (i.e., quid pro quo, hostile work environment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking) prevention and intervention education. The Title IX curriculum designed for CUSM constituents is released throughout the year virtually and in-person. These Title IX trainings are tailored for each CUSM audience, to educate our community about the history of Title IX, become aware of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct statistics, understand why Title IX is an important topic, learn how to prevent sexual harassment and sexual misconduct, comprehend the role of intervention, and discover local resources and support systems that are available for both students and employees.
Key concepts covered in CUSM’s online and in-person Title IX education curriculum include:
- Definitions of different forms of sexual harassment (I.e., quid pro quo, hostile work environment, sexual assault, interpersonal violence (domestic and dating violence), stalking)
- Social norms, including the attitudes and beliefs that can normalize sexual harassment and sexual misconduct
- Local resources, including confidential supports on- and off- campus
- Rights and options about reporting sexual harassment and sexual misconduct
Student Title IX Training: All incoming graduate and medical students are required to take a Safe Colleges online education module titled, “Sexual Violence Prevention for Graduate Students”. All continuing graduate and medical students are required to take ongoing Title IX training annually through Safe Colleges online training. Also, continuing students are required to take tailored in-person Title IX education targeted for specific student groups by the office of CUSM’s Title IX Coordinator.
Employee (Staff and Faculty) Title IX Training: All CUSM employees are required to complete a Safe Colleges online education module titled, “Title IX and Sexual Harassment”. An additional Title IX training for employees that work closely with students (i.e., Deans, Student Affairs personnel, Assistant Deans, and Faculty) is also required for completion within the Safe Colleges online platform titled, “Title IX and Sexual Harassment Prevention for Employees”. All continuing employees are required to take ongoing Title IX training annually through Safe Colleges onIine training. Also, continuing employees are required to take targeted Title IX in-person education designed for specific employee groups by the office of CUSM’s Title IX Coordinator, such as:
- Senior Administration Title IX Seminar (PPT can be requested)
- Responsible Employee Title IX Seminar for Faculty (PPT can be requested)
- Campus Security Authority Clery Act & Title IX Seminar (PPT can be requested)
Title IX Coordinator, Informal Resolution Officer, Investigator, Hearing Officer, and Appeal Officer Training: In accordance with CUSM’s obligations under the U.S. Department of Education's 2020 Title IX Regulation, all training materials used to train the Title IX Coordinator, Title IX investigators, Title IX decisionmakers, and any person who facilitates a Title IX Informal Resolution process are available here:
