Laser Doppler Flowmetry and Wavelet Analyses show the mechanisms underlying age and diet-related changes in the microcirculation

Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Jonas Addae, PhD, MBA, MBChB

Professor of Medical Education, Physiology

Friday, April 12, 2024
CUSM Lecture Hall 125

Dr. Jonas Addae completed his medical education at the University of Ghana Medical School and then did his PhD in neurophysiology at Trevor Stone's lab at the University of London. He later completed an MBA with Henley Business School at the University of Reading in the UK. For many years, he was a faculty at the University of the West Indies campus in Trinidad & Tobago. During this time, he helped develop the medical school curriculum and served in several senior administrative positions.

He has worked with CAAM-HP, the agency that accredits Caribbean Medical Schools, all of which provide clinical training in US hospitals. Dr. Addae became associated with CUSM in 2017, initially helping with CUSM's preparation for accreditation and later teaching a couple of modules as a visiting professor. He joined CUSM as a full-time faculty in 2020.
Dr. Addae has dedicated his research to exploring various intriguing questions within his field, as evidenced by his published work and research interests. However, his primary focus has centered on investigating the role of glutamate receptor subtypes in offering intrinsic neuroprotection in both the cerebral cortex and hippocampus.

Recently, Dr. Addae and his team in Trinidad and Tobago have shifted their research focus to comprehending the impact of diet, aging, and potential nonpharmacological interventions on microcirculation control mechanisms. Their goal is to enhance microcirculatory function. Dr. Addae plans to facilitate collaboration by transporting tissues, cultured cells, and plasma from the Trinidad labs to CUSM. This will enable interested faculty and students at CUSM to delve into related questions in the wet lab setting.
